2016_Fjutscherdeutsch_In December 2010 several mutual friends brought Scott together with the multi-faceted brilliant German Spoken-word artist and poet Timo Brunke as EmCees for an awards event at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart, and they have since collaborated intensely on a variety of projects  – most notably two full-length two-man shows: Der Übergang des Abendlandes, 2011 (The Transition of the Western World – a commission from the Theaterhaus, Stuttgart) and Ein Abend mit dem Herrn Sensenmann, 2013 (An Evening with the Grim Reaper – a commission of the Palliative Care Network). Now there is FJUTSCHERDEUTSCH.

Audio: Gary Verkade – SR Flux Revisited (1987/2015)

Posted by on 2015 08 19 in Audio, Collaborations, SR Compositions

A brand-new recording by Gary Verkade of my old composition Flux for organ (1987) – on a wonderful-sounding instrument in northernmost Sweden late in 2014 – was the occasion for me to hear this old piece again after many years and remember that I had composed a whole range of modules written out on paper and then distributed on the page at will and fixed in place.

Hearing that fine recording of the material anew, I realised that I could return the fragments to their original free state and let them re-combine freely by using a shuffle mode to play the samples, or make new orderings of the material or use it further in performances…

Listen on Soundcloud by hitting the Soundcloud icon upper right – there you can activate shuffle mode and much better see what he is currently playing.

Audio: Gestrumental Moments In-flight (2013)

Posted by on 2014 08 19 in Audio, iOS

These are single-pass realtime improvisations playing an iPad 4 running the App Gestrument 1.2.4 (by Jester Nordin/Jonatan Lihedahl, see ) to create music with a virtual orchestra with whom I had had quite good and rewarding rehearsal and preparation time… Look forward to working with the ensemble in the future!

Several entries from “Gestrumental Moments” improvised in real time 31 July 2013 starting around noon Islandic time and rather near there, flying at about 10 km altitude between Frankfurt and Dallas. Good headphones and hardly anyone noticed a thing.

Thanks to Jester and Jonatan (and to Apple, alas) for making such a cool instrumental interface!

Video: Timo Brunke + SR Playlist (2012)

Posted by on 2014 08 17 in Video

There is now a playlist on YouTube with 9 samples from Timo Brunke and Scott Roller’s show “Der Übergang des Abendlands” (roughly The Passing of the Western World). Timo is, of course, a Slam poet who works in German, so an English audience would not be able to make much sense out of much of this, but the second and seventh numbers are purely musical… More information in English about the show here.

Tracklist (with the arrow button you can skip to the next sample in the playlist):

1. Der Übergang des Abendlandes [Timo/Scott] 2. Wayfaring Stranger [Scott] 3. Riesenstandort [Timo] 4. Die Zodiakiden (Excerpt) [Timo/Scott] 5. Die Kitesurferin (Excerpt) [Timo/Scott] 6.
